4 Unique Approaches to Protecting Your Computers Against Malware

Threat actors have ramped up their activities in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and they for sure don't seem to be slowing down.

Knowing how many people are working from home could be one of the motivations for these hackers and scammers. Knowing that most workers will now be without the protection of their corporate firewall, they are seen as easy targets.

You don’t have to be sitting ducks for these hackers, though.

We have prepared a couple of tips for better security for you to check out below.

Install Antivirus Software

Before we go on, we must say that antivirus won’t save you against all kinds of malware. It will come in handy against virus attacks, though.

There are a lot of creative ways to get a virus onto your device. Some of the common attempts are:

●      From malicious sites and links.

●      Downloading infected files over the internet.

●      Clicking on malicious links.

●      Backdoor exploits, etc.

When antivirus software is in play, you get to catch most of these cases before they ever become an issue for you.

Install a VPN

You can ensure security with a VPN in addition to the antivirus software mentioned above.

VPNs are developed to encrypt your internet traffic and prevent hackers from sniffing around the packets of data you send.

With that, they can also make it possible for hackers to have a very hard time hijacking your internet packets. Otherwise, they could install malware on any of the data packets and route it back to your computer.

Likewise, a VPN makes hijacking your network very difficult when connected to a public/ free Wi-Fi network.

Backup your Files

A mistake that most people make is not keeping backups of their files. Even if you cannot always back up all of your files, make sure the sensitive files have a backup file somewhere.

Another common mistake is only having one kind of backup file. A solid backup strategy features both an offline and online backup package.

That way, you are insulated from general online hacks that could tamper with your online backups. Likewise, you are now better protected against ransomware attacks. After all, you can wipe down the system to restart from backup.

Update your Devices

It is easier to infect your units with malware when there is an exploitable flaw in the device operating system or program software.

Worms, for example, will be very effective against weak databases like we have seen in the past. Once such vulnerabilities are patched, the user gets a notification prompt to update their software. Failure to do so leaves them at the mercy of threat actors who know how to work around such flaws.

Final Words

There is no one size fits all model for battling malware. That is evident when you see that we have different kinds of malware. Following the tips above will give you a better protection profile against malware attacks from threat actors.
